Once a year, 500+ coral species release eggs and sperm simultaneously into the water column — an underwater snowstorm. Pre-warned dive operators take groups out specifically for the spawn.

Date confirmed only ~5 days ahead. Liveaboard dive boats from Cairns / Port Douglas have best access. Diving certification needed for night dives.
