Thousands of paper lanterns released into the sky simultaneously, mirrored by candle-lit floats released onto the river. Chiang Mai's Yi Peng is the most photogenic; Bangkok's Loy Krathong is the largest.

Yi Peng Mae Jo mass release tickets sell out 6+ months ahead. Free 'community' Yi Peng on Ping River — quieter, equally beautiful. Pingxi (Taiwan, Feb) is the smaller cousin.
