Holi — Festival of Colors
Most people know Holi as 'colored powder fights.' Vrindavan and Mathura — Krishna's hometown — turn it into a week-long temple-and-flower frenzy that's far more spiritual and 10× as intense as the Delhi tourist version.
Practical info
Wear clothes you'll throw away. Powder gets EVERYWHERE. Vrindavan is 3.5h drive from Delhi. Solo female travelers: stick to organized groups — Holi crowds can be aggressive.
Expected weather during the event
Avg high 31°C · low 16°C · 2 rain days
Less-crowded alternatives
- Lathmar Holi — Barsana, week before main Holi (women playfully beat men with sticks)
- Phagwah — Trinidad's diaspora celebration
